FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Cleo Martin

This week’s trendy Fashionista worked black on black and experimented with texture – luxurious velvet and hard, shiny leather. She addresses multiple trends in just one offering, such as the grey marl tied crop top, which adds a casual sports luxe feel to her outfit. Studs and zips lend tougher accents in contrast. The look is layered with a tasseled tartan scarf; an imaginative way to subtly channel the country trend. Off campus, the equestrian-influenced 'Heritage' look was shown by designers including Christian Dior and Antonio Marras for Kenzo. But, here's the student version...

Name: Cleo Martin

Year: 1

Major: Law

CollegeFashionista: Talk me through how you put your outfit together this morning – what inspired you?

Cleo Martin: Well, I like to think I’m a bit of a rock chick, so I do wear a lot of black, but to soften the look I grabbed my favourite scarf. I’ve always loved tartan, so I was glad to see it becoming a statement print because of the country trends around at the moment. And it keeps me warm!

CF: Do you have any tips for looking stylish in the winter months?

CM: I think layering is the most important thing to do and can look really chic when done properly. I made sure I was wearing comfy, but fashionable pieces today. Also, scarves are a great way to wrap up whilst adding a splash of colour to an outfit too.

CF: Yours works really well with this sleek look. Where is it from?

CM: I was lucky to pick it up in a charity shop, such a great find. I also have a couple of woollen scarves from Primark.

How To: Maxis can be extremely flattering and are only just filtering off the high street. This Fashionista’s maxi skirt is another vintage find but you can get your eager paws on a very similar velvet one from ASOS. A maxi with a lighter feel such as Dorothy Perkins’ or Matalan’s designs will take you through to the spring season with ease (and are both purse friendly!) Check out House of Tartan for an extensive selection of ‘English gentleman’ scarves. The leather jacket, arguably a wardrobe essential, can be purchased from H&M. Finally, accessorise with big hair and a flick of eyeliner!
