The Canadian tuxedo — a dreaded statement for anyone to say, let alone see! For years we've been told that this is pretty much the death of fashion or does no one remember that one time Britney and Justin showed up both dressed in them? And their relationship ended didn't it? Exactly! I can't say there are many more trends that have shocked me when they've made the transition from taboo to totally cool like this one has, but I'm not complaining. When don't right this can be an effortlessly cool looking look, when done wrong, you become that person we all judge on the train!
There are plenty of ways to pull off this trend without traipsing over to the laughable side of things. The biggest trick of them all? Diversity! Want to wear a light denim shirt? Grab some super dark wash jeans to go with it and you've got yourself a winning outfit. Add a brown belt and some simple oxfords like this Fashionista? Fashion gold! The key here is just making sure your denims are all falling into the same family of wash; this means no light with light or dark with dark. Just switch it up! Black denim jeans with a nicely tucked in light to medium wash denim top and a belt for a little separation? Good to go! Light wash denim shirt pair with your favourite light wash denim shorts? No go, you're reaching into the wrong territory with that choice, ladies and gents.
As far as accessories go with this sort of outfit, I personally prefer to keep it light and have one, maybe two statement pieces and all on the more natural side — feathers and the such. But if that's not your bag? Go ring crazy! This is the perfect outfit to show case all of your fantastic rings you've been hoarding over the last few years.
