TREND: Colour Block
22Feb 11
This week’s Fashionista stood out in a surprising splash of colours on an otherwise dreary day. Most turn to dark colours throughout winter and the fashion industry, as a whole, is eternally in love with black, so I was glad to spot someone brightening up our streets.
Block colour is a repeated trend over the seasons with designers returning to its striking and uplifting appearance. This month’s "Vogue Spy," explored "neon 5 ways," illustrating how labels such as Miu Miu and Jil Sander brightened up their collections. Take a look at this spring’s fluoros. Secondly, Miss V presented "rainbow brights," worn on the catwalk by stars from Carey Mulligan to Jessica Alba. Celebrities and students alike are ready to welcome back colour. Check out more striking red carpet colour online.
This colour loving Fashionista paired contrasting vibrant red and bright purple in her outfit. A long, loose fitting top with ruffled detail is teamed perfectly with a simple bodycon skirt, experimenting with both colour and fit. Boohoo has a cheap and cheerful skirt in stock. She offsets the colour pop statement with black opaque tights and a cropped leather jacket from H&M. Her grey-brown fur lined boots and satchel bag match perfectly, completing the look. Surely every student needs something stylish to heave their books around in, right? For student appropriate, but catwalk worthy bags, try the woven leather hobo from Warehouse or Topshop’s cheaper tan leather lock handle bag. The only accessory she needs to complement the block colours is a slim and elegant silver bracelet; get yours from Pandora.
Hint: If (like me) you worship black on black or neutrals, try a subtle take on the trend by investing in a neon lipstick or statement nail varnish to add a cheeky side to your current look. I love Barry M’s vast selection of nail paint colours, adding a flash of fun to any outfit.
