TREND: Suited and Booted
15Feb 11
Few can resist a man in a suit. Today’s dapper Fashionisto individualised the smartness of a shirt and tie, lending a casual appeal to ‘English dandy’ elegance. Admittedly never out of style, it’s the cut, the material and the level of formality that results in the suited look evolving throughout the seasons and for varying occasions.
The shirt and tie is rarely absent from the men’s day catwalks entirely. Design houses from Lanvin to Louis Vuitton modernised and distorted the established combination, whilst ensuring the looks remained classic and masculine. The former showcased crisp, structured shirts with boldly patterned distressed ties and bowties; the latter presented sleek, wet look ties over the archetypal white shirt. A cropped trench coat provides the perfect cover up for this outfit with this week’s Fashionisto choosing an AllSaints design. In fact, he wears head to toe AllSaints, minus the faded black skinny jeans which can be purchased from Topman.
The attention to detail is imperative to get this look just right for daytime. Choose a neutral colour palette of black, white and grey, which slightly mutes the bold statement outfit and simultaneously links all the pieces together. The rolled up jeans anticipate the spring season and the Fair Isle socks pay homage to the knitwear patterns seen from the likes of Gucci last season. Texture is important, too; try a sheer style jumper over the block colour shirt, contrasting a heavy coat. American Apparel has an extensive selection of pullover jumpers.
Finally, the faux vintage suede boots complete the look to perfection. Check out River Island or Firetrap for similar takes on the Erosion boot pictured. Alternatively, rifle through local charity shop selections and vintage offerings for a lucky, unique footwear find!
